Date: Wednesday & Thursday 18 & 19 March 2009

Location: Grand Hyatt, Melbourne

The keynote speaker will be David Meier, co-author of "The Toyota Way Fieldbook". In his foreword to that book John Shook, last year's keynote speaker, praises David's abilities developed by living the Toyota Way on the plant floor for several years at Toyota's facility at Georgetown, Kentucky. Since leaving Toyota David has assisted many organisations in their Lean transformation efforts. He will be discussing his roadmap for lean transformation and sharing ideas about developing people to accelerate those transformations. David spoke to 1,000 people at the Lean Enterprise Summit in Brazil earlier this year, and will be speaking to the Lean Enterprise Denmark Summit early next year.

Barry Budge, who has held Senior Management positions with Toyota Motor Corporation Australia  for 24 years and has key responsibility for Supplier Development, will describe the work Toyota has been doing in developing some of its key suppliers, and will also touch on the steps that Toyota itself is taking to overcome the effects of the Global Financial Crisis.

Professor David Ben-Tovim of Flinders Medical Centre will look back over the five years the hospital has been travelling the Lean journey, and describe the successes and challenges that have been experienced in transforming a large complex organisation.

Gary Stewart, General Manager, Aisin, who spoke at the North American AME conference earlier this year, will describe how his thinking about Lean Leadership has developed significantly during the last twelve months, based on his conversations with Jim Womack and John Shook.

The National Australia Bank team will decribe their leap forward in Lean Transformation.

A speaker from Cobham Aviation Services Australia, the nation's third largest aviation operator, will describe how the first year of Lean has gone, and the plans for the future.

A speaker from Bonds (who are closing garment manufacturing in Australia) will reflect on what went wrong despite impressive lean results.

There will be a choice of breakout workshops covering Toyota's approach to developing all employees, Value Stream Mapping in Manufacturing or Office and Services, Lean Distribution, and Lean and the Environment,
